What is the difference between an At Large Member and a District Member?

As an At Large member you receive your monthly journal, membership card and member rates at any of the classes that are being offered by TWUA Central Office, at our yearly Annual School or any of the Regional Schools throughout the year.

As a District Member you receive all of the above benefits as well as the opportunity to earn up to 2 hours credit toward your water and/or wastewater license renewal each month you attend the monthly district meetings.

Am I able to attend other District Meetings and earn credit hours too?

Yes.  The only requirement is that you contact Central Office to pay the district dues for the particular district in your surrounding area.  You can join multiple districts and attend their monthly meetings each month.  There is no limit to the amount of districts that you would like to join in order to meet your 30 hours toward your license renewal.

Am I a member and if so, what district do I belong to? How long have I been a member?

To obtain this information please call Henrietta in Membership at Central Office at (512)459-3124.

You can go to the website and check your membership and status if you know your username and password.  If not, you can get that information by calling Central Office.

Why have I stopped receiving the monthly Journal?

If this occurs, your address may have changed due to a move or your membership may not have been renewed by your employer.

I have been attending the meetings every month but my name is not on the attendance roster and I have not received any credit hours?

Usually if this occurs you may not have joined the district as a member and are only an At Large Member.  This can always be changed from At Large to the district you have been attending by paying the district dues through Central Office.

How long does it take to get my hours submitted to TCEQ?

A number of variables come into play.  TCEQ wants hours reported within 14 business days from the date of training.

For district meetings, the total time depends on how long it takes the district secretary to get the roster AND program report form into central office plus the time it takes central office to process this information and report it to TCEQ.  Most complete reports and rosters are out of the office to TCEQ in 3-5 working days.  The process will take longer if several districts report hours in the same time period, in which case, hours will be reported in the order that they are received.  The more time it takes to get the information to central office, the longer it will take to get the hours reported TCEQ.

Class hours are dependent on the instructors getting their reports and attendance cards back to the office.  Travel for the instructors, mailing the information, trying to get proper information from students, and verifying payment all play a part in this process.  To report training hours to TCEQ, WE HAVE TO HAVE A COMPLETE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER or TCEQ LICENSE NUMBER.  If you choose not to provide this information, NO hours will be submitted for you.  TCEQ has no other way at the present time to track your training hours.  Also, if you do not have a license and have not filled out an application for one,  you will not see your hours displayed on the TCEQ website for any meeting or class you have attended or exam you have taken.  The hours are not lost but will remain in a “holding file” until your application has been submitted.  Once TCEQ has received your application, you should see your hours appear on their website.

Please note:  There are several reasons why you may not see your hours on the TCEQ website.

  • You do not have a current license with TCEQ.
  • You have an expired membership with TWUA.
  • The roster and report for a district meeting have not been submitted to central office.
  • The attendance cards and report for a class have not been submitted to central office.
  • We do not have an ID number (SSN or TCEQ Lic #) for you.
  • You were not included on the roster or we do not have an attendance card for you.
  • The ID number (SSN or TCEQ Lic #) used when reporting hours to TCEQ was incorrect.
  • Central office is backed up.  We try our best to report hours as quickly as possible but sometimes it takes a little longer!

If you attended a class or district meeting with someone who has received their hours and you have not, please contact central office.  All hours should appear on the website at the same time so there is reason why yours do not appear.  Do not panic – hours can always be corrected and we will work with you to make sure you receive the hours you have earned!

Ways to help speed up the process:

- Make sure your information is up-to-date on the TWUA website!  Login in and make sure the ID number and contact information we have on file for your is correct.
- Make sure your attendance cards are filled out completely and turned in at the end of a class.
- Keep an active status on your TWUA membership.
- If you are a district secretary or an instructor, submit completed reports and rosters/attendance cards as soon as possible.

Can I hold a class in my system facility?

Yes!  There are a few requirements and a few options.  Do you want a class closed to just your system or do you want to invite your neighbors to help make the class?  A closed class requires 12 students or payment for 12 if there are fewer.  Open the class up, and if the 12 students do not register, we cancel the class and try again.  No money lost if the class does not make.

Classroom requirements are straightforward, an environment that enables learning.  Students, comfortable temperature, chairs, tables, a white board or chalkboard, and a means to use a projector for powerpoint presentations.  Depending on the class you may need an area for demonstrations and hands on activity.  You normally would not be required to provide a computer or projector.  You are not obligated to provide meals, just directions to the eating places.  Some entities provide snacks, some provide a break room with vending machines and some, directions to the corner store.
