Individual Membership

The Texas Water Utilities Association has two ways of becoming an Individual Member. One is where you become a member of the Association only which is called an "At-Large" membership - membership in the Association, but not in a local District or Chapter. At Large membership dues are only $50 per year. The most common way is by joining through a local District/Chapter of the Association where you are a member of the statewide Association plus the local District, Section or Chapter.
   
As a member of TWUA (whether "At-Large" or through one of the Districts and/or Chapters), you will receive a subscription to the Texas Water Utilities Journal, our monthly magazine which features updates on regulatory and technological changes occurring in our industry, various “how to” articles designed to assist you, and articles recognizing individuals and/or utilities for their achievements or recognition received. The journal subscription alone is well worth the modest annual dues required to be a member of this vibrant service organization. Also as a member, one may take advantage of:

•     Lower registration fees at various schools, seminars, symposiums and workshops offered by TWUA or its subsidiary units.
•     Reduced prices on our popular water and wastewater operations manuals, Technical Assistance Publications, and other materials.
•     Eligibility to apply for scholarship assistance through the V. M. Ehlers Foundation, Inc. (for you or your children).

District/Chapter Membership

Of particular interest, by joining one of our 68 local District or Chapters, those who are licensed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) as a water treatment plant operator, a water distribution system operator, a wastewater collection system operator or a wastewater treatment plant operator, TWUA is the only Texas organization which can offer you up to two (2) hours of water and wastewater operator licensing credit for verified attendance at monthly meetings of our Districts and Laboratory Analysts’ Chapters around the state. This is an excellent way to earn the continuing education credits necessary to renew your license. It is also a very cost-effective way to do so, usually requiring less time away from the job than attending another 20-hour course to renew one’s license.


For those involved in the laboratory and customer service sectors, TWUA has specialty Sections with local Chapters, to provide education and training opportunities. There are also voluntary certification programs in-place for these important water utilities service areas. Credits for renewing one’s certification can be earned by attending local Chapter meetings. There is also an accreditation program for water utilities instructors in TWUA.

Of equal importance to the license/certification credits received, meeting with a group of your peers on a regular basis offers a tremendous opportunity for professional growth, for learning from one another, and helping one another to become better water utilities professionals. This networking, problem-solving opportunity is sometimes even more valuable than classroom training.
